The first-ever Light Up Leicester was created by founding partners Art Reach, BID Leicester, and Leicester City Council, with support from Arts Council England. The inaugural 2020 festival saw the city come alive as 60,000 people filled the streets to celebrate, with families, friends, and visitors exploring dazzling installations and sharing magical moments together.

Following the success of its first edition, Light Up Leicester returned in 2022 with an expanded programme, drawing over 80,000 visitors. Now, in 2025, the festival will continue to celebrate community, connection, and culture with an even broader range of interactive artworks, performances, and creative activities for all to enjoy. Light Up Leicester remains a testament to the power of collaboration and creativity, proudly presented by Leicester City Council, BID Leicester, Art Reach and Leicester Cathedral.
