Pre festival planning tips

3. Find accessible parking: There will be accessible parking available at key city centre carparks close to the event site

4. Plan your trip around the trail: Familiarise yourself with the map to plan your route around the installations and performances

5. Find out artwork sensitivity warnings: The artworks and performances have provided us with helpful information and sensitivity warnings here.

6. Have a read through FAQs: Our Access section on the FAQs page may answer some more of your questions ahead of the event

7. Stay up to date on social  media: Sometimes things change. Try following our social media pages for any announced changes in the programming you might need to know before you arrive.

What Support is at Light Up Leicester?

Access Support Hub: Location: Visit Leicester Information Centre, 4a St Martins, Leicester LE1 5DB in the King Richard III Visitor Centre. Opening Times: 6pm – 10pm

We are here to help: Staff in coloured high-visability tabbards will be on hand to help every evening

Ride Leicester Adapted Bike Fleet

The Ride Leicester adapted bike fleet is here to support mobility around the festival for people who might not be able to ride a conventional bike. The fleet is piloted by Ride Leaders and includes rickshaws, box bikes and gazelles which can carry children and wheelchairs. Pre-booking only, via cycle-city@leicester.gov.uk giving more opportunity for all to experience the festival.

We have two free offers for people who need extra help to enjoy the festival:

  • The Bike Parade on Thursday will include a fleet of adapted cycles (2, 3 or 4 wheels / electric-assisted / piloted) for people who need extra help accessing the parade, festival & wider city centre. Groups or individuals can book via cycle-city@leicester.gov.uk.
  • Pre-bookable Rickshaw tours for people who need additional mobility support with access at 6pm, 7pm and 8pm on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.We have Ride Leaders & a fleet of rickshaws, cargo bikes and adapted cycles, which can be pre-booked via cycle-city@leicester.gov.uk.

BSL Tour

We’re excited to introduce Light Up Leicester’s first Deaf-led BSL tour, offering a guided experience of the festival’s stunning light installations in British Sign Language.

Meeting Point: Town Hall Square Fountain
Distance: Approx. 1.5 miles

Join us for a relaxed, fully signed tour of the festival, exploring the spectacular light installations across the city centre. Be sure to dress for the weather and wear comfortable footwear!
